WHAT
DOES CAMP PROVIDE?
|
|
|
The
CAMP program focuses on relieving the pressures a new college student
might confront. We focus our assistance on the students academic, advisory
and financial needs. We start by helping with the completion of
the necessary forms for admission, financial aid, and other university
services.

Academically, we provide a mixture of leadership and career development via our education specialist, academic counselor and helpful staff. Our education specialist, Rick Jagels, is a staff member who dedicates his time, not only to provide educational tutoring, but he also teams up with each of our students to explore their chosen academic major. Mr. Jagels also works cooperatively with professors to help ensure each student's success. Each student will have a good idea of how they are doing academically on a monthly basis thanks to the monthly assesments that students complete with each of their professors. This also gives the student and professor some time to get to know each other as people, helping create an enriching educational experience for both the student and the professor. |

Counselor,
the academic counselor focuses on
our students' orientation to campus life. Meetings with our counselor,
Lina Wiedeman, occurs in both an individual and group environment. Lina
provides our students with personal, extracurricular, and/or cultural
guidance. She act as a liaison for our students with campus clubs and
organizations, and facilitates the development of a support system to
improve study and social skills for college survival. To see what kind

Money to help with College! |
Financially, we assist each of our students in applying for all available Federal and State financial aid, other grants, scholarships, and/or government school loans. Once a student's financial aid package is compiled we compare the amount of money the student is awarded with the cost of attending college and if funds are still missing we provide a grant for up to $1300.00 for the academic year. Also taking into consideration that students have basic needs, we provide our student with a weekly stipend to use as they see fit. Additionally, we know that college text books could cost as much as $ 800.00 per year so we purchase text books for freshmen student use, and have created a lending library for use by our upperclassmen to decrease the cost of books over their college career. Our students come from all around New York and some surrounding states making transportation a major expense for them. We have set aside funds for all needed holiday travels and occasional weekend visits. A typical financial package from the CAMP Program alone could be as much as $ 3,600.00, if the student qualifies and applies in a timely manner.
